What Are Open Educational Resources?
Open Educational Resources (OER) are learning, teaching and research materials in any format and medium that reside in the public domain or are under copyright that have been released under an open license, that permit no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose, adaptation and redistribution by others (UNESCO, 2021).
OER conform to what is known as the 5Rs: Retain, Revise, Remix, Reuse, & Redistribute. This allows for authors and creators to retain copyright of their work while allowing for free public use, revision, adaptation, and sharing of the original or any derivatives of the work with attribution to the original materials. Most OER are licensed under a creative commons license.
